All The Colours Of The Rainbow

As often happens, I found myself recently browsing cute kawaii stores on Ebay, hoping upon a bargain or two. Amongst a store that sold me all the Totoro merch I could ask for, I saw these pretty pops of colour shining out; a vast array of the brightest nail varnishes you could imagine.

Obviously I had to snap them up and give them a go; any excuse to buy anything colourful, am I right? They do need two coats to really shine through, but after that you can see 'em for miles! Anyway, they were cheap as chips so I'm rather happy. I'm not a very Summery person (I much prefer Autumn/Winter!), but I do love making the most of bright colours everywhere and it being (sort of) acceptable to have neon nails.

What little purchases have you made this week?

Blogger Nails

Is it just me or is white now the official colour of choice for most bloggers these days? Whether it's super white quality photographs, slick white outfits, heavenly looking decor,or now; nails. It seems a lot of us (not all I know!) are becoming obsessed with this clean white slate in every area of our lives. Take me for example; I am clearly someone who loves colour. Whether you look at my hair, my blog, my tattoos or my outfits, you'll always see plenty of colour surrounding me and I love it. But every now and again.. this blogging trend pulls me in. I've opted for white nails this week, as you can see. Pure white brilliance, with a subtle shimmer on top; just lovely. I'm afraid I don't have the patience to apply it as perfectly as some other bloggers though. Helen from The Lovecats Inc is one blogger who seriously causes me nail envy on a regular basis. So yes, I've began wearing white nail varnish, and I'm definitely a fan. This is coming from the girl who often paints each nail a different colour just because she can't decide on a shade.

So will I be giving up colour? Pfftt... Definitely not. I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that the blogging community often influences me in many ways; some subtle like this, some not so much. I think this is a fantastic thing though, as it's exposing me to new things all the time. Fair enough you might hate 'trends' and want to be different, well good for you! That's awesome. I just want to say it's okay to be influenced sometimes, and try these trends on for size. You might find something that fits wonderfully.

What do you guys think? Do bloggers ever influence you?

DIY: Rainbow Nails

I'm so proud of my new nails! As many of you already know, I'm not the best when doing something that requires patience and a steady hand; as you can see from some slight smudges shown in the photographs. But I really did truly try this weekend to create something extra special for the week ahead. I've broken this down into a few steps for you guys, and trust me; if I can do this, you can too!

You will need;
4 Colourful shades of nail varnish.
1 White nail varnish.
1 Top coat nail varnish.
1 Roll of washi tape.
1 Toothpick/or White nail pen

1. Select the colours you would like to use to make up your rainbow.
2. Start by using the washi tape to cover each nail, leaving only one 'stripe' of nail still visible.
3. Fill in this stripe with one of your chosen colours.
4. Wait for this to dry, then remove the tape.
5. Reapply more washi tape, this time leaving another stripe of nail visible.
6. Carefully apply another stripe of a different colour.
7. Repeat until nails are completely filled with colours and dry, then apply the top coat to seal.
8. Use a nail art pen or a toothpick to draw on your clouds at the base of your nail.
9. Wait to dry, and then apply another top coat.
10. Tidy up all edges, and viola! You have a set of beautiful rainbow nails :]

I hope you guys enjoy this little DIY, let me know what you think or if you'll be trying this one ut yourselves! :] Have a great week!

New Years Eve Nails

Reserved grey, with a little kick of sparkle here and there. I know I could go all out for New Years Eve, but this is just the combination I'm in the mood for right now. Maybe it's representing the New Year's I'm going to have. A simple one, Gary and I are staying in. But we're gonna celebrate with plenty of wine and happiness, and a little sparkle. I'm pretty content with that this year! No feeling will match bringing in the new year with the one I love, in a new home I love.

I know there are a million fancy pants brands out there, but I just always find myself buying Barry M nail products. I love them so much! Especially these two; Atlantis & Chai.

What nails will you be bringing in the New Year with?
Or couldn't you care less? :] Tell me either way!

Top 5 Christmas Nails Under £5

There's something about this time of year that makes us all suddenly wanna emulate Christmas literally through our nails. We want the reds of Santa, the glitter of tinsel, the deep purples of our lips (rockin' that berry lip still obviously). Maybe it's just me. But I'm in the spirit, and my nails are too!

The five choices above are just ones I keep going back to right now, whether old or new - they keep my little fingertips looking pretty as an Instagram friendly picture could be! :] From left to right we have, Maybelline Colour Show 'Noite De Gal' (£2.99 From Boots), Barry M Textured, 'Princess', (£3.99 Barry M), GOSH Frosted '05 Rose' (£3.99 Superdrug), Rimmel Lasting Finish '030 Double Decker Red' (£2.99 Superdrug), and finally MUA Fever Red, (£1 MUA).

It's fair to say there are hoards of bargains about!

Halloween Nails

Just a quick one to show how simple Halloween nails could be done in five minutes :) Simply get some orange and black nail polish, and use a toothpick, a sewing needle, anything sharp and small to draw on your pumpkin faces. If you have an actual nail art pen, go you, you win at life. I however do not because they never work right for me.

Looking forward to Halloween! ^__^

DIY: Cute Nails Made Easy

We all like to jazz up our nails every now and again don't we? No? Okay this post isn't for you sorry!
Personally I change my nails every few days and I never have them bare. I'm impatient mind, so they're never in pristine condition. I tend to just slap some polish on and go, and half the time I smudge it before it's even dry.

So this means although I have a Pinterest board full of gorgeous nail DIY's, I'm usually too clumsy or impatient to be able to do any of them. So I made my own!

This little DIY is so easy, even I can do it!

Lovely! Easy peasy right? I challenge you to mess this up.
The only tip I will offer is be patient and make sure your nails are 100% dry before putting on or removing the tape. Or it will smudge and ruin your work within seconds.

What do you think lovelies? I personally love the white/pastel coloured attempts I did. But I wanted to show how you could do it with darker colours and look more 'polished' than playful if that's your thing.

Let me know what you think :) !

NOTD post

Just a quickie to show what products I've been trying on my nails this week, and what I have on today. I love seeing NOTD posts, so be sure to leave a link if you do one! :)

Thanks!

I've been trying out MUA's nail varnishes, since they are such a bargain at £1 each.

I went for 'Natural Days', 'Red Rose' and 'Clear'.

Not a lot to say about these, they're pretty alright. You get what you pay for I think.
They are definitely nice little additions to my collection and I'd happily get more. But I know I'd happily pay more for polishes that have a longer wear, too.

Quite happy with these little beauts. As I say, not the most amazing polish in the world, but I didn't expect that from a budget brand anyway.
I'm sure I'll be adding more colours to my collection soon.

What do you guys think about MUA nail varnish?

DIY Nails

I've been playing around with my nails recently, and I wanted to share a fun 'How-To' with you guys for this particular look. I think it's really cute, and best of all, it's super easy to do!

What you'll need;
A nail varnish colour of your choice,
Clear topcoat varnish,
Some glitter (dry, plain glitter, not that gel crap),
Cotton buds,
A piece of paper,
A camera to show me how yours went!
(Tweet me @dorkfaceinfo)

Okay step 1. Go through all of your nail varnishes, and pick out the colour you want for the base.
Step 2. Decide what colour glitter you want layered over the top.
As with most things in life, I went with the pink.

Nailed it.

A little update for you guys on how my nails are looking this week :) I wanted a little bit of glitz and glitter, so I teamed a few varnishes together. In order of sequence as shown below, we have Rimmel London '503 - Mind the Gap, Victoria', then Miss Sporty Base and Top Coat, a Claires Accessories purple glitter; without a name sorry! And finally Barry M '264 - Pink Iridescent'.

Originally I was only going to wear the blue Rimmel shade with a top coat over, but then thought 'Screw it!' I want GLITTER. So I added the other two glitter varnishes over the top. Do you like it?

I must apologise for my stubby fingers, short nails and messy application of the nail polishes! It was such a quick job and I'm a clumsy, messy girl :) But this kinda pretties it up eh?
I gotta say, I'm happy with it! I love a little glitz to the everyday.

What are you guys wearing? Comment below or tweet me your nail pics! :)
