*PMD Personal Microderm - RRP £150 available here.

If you're anything like me, you love the idea of beautiful skin (obviously) but sometimes have no idea where to start. There are so many brands, products, treatments and steps that it's really hard to know what is best for you and your skin if you aren't an expert.

So when PMD recently got in touch with me asking if I'd like to try the Personal Microderm, I knew had to do a little research first. I'd read about them on the blog of the lovely Charlotte already, and was wowed by the results she had experienced. When I visited the PMD website and read into the treatment a little more, it sounded to me like it was really flexible with how you use it, and because of the various exfoliating discs, it could be used on a whole variety of skin types which was great. So I decided to give it a go and say yes.

The complete kit comes with seven exfoliating discs of various sizes and sensitivity, the handheld device and even a DVD with a video thoroughly explaining how to use it; great for someone as clueless as me! Using exfoliation with a vacuum suction to diminish the appearance of blemishes, fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores; it's quite an impressive device. I was mostly excited to really exfoliate my skin and clear out my pores; something I regularly obsess over!

I'll be honest with you straight away; using this feels really weird. You have to hold your skin taut in the chosen area, and swoop the device across the skin in a constant motion; never doing the same are more than once. You can feel the suction pulling at your skin as you do this, which is a very odd sensation, but definitely not painful or unpleasant in any way. Imagine using a teeny, tiny hoover across your skin, that's what it's like! The other strange thing is that your skin is dry during this process. Having been so used to trying to products or treatments using oils, creams, cleansers etc, it's actually fascinating using a product this way.

I've been using this product mostly on my face as this is the area I am most self conscious about, however I have also tried this on my legs and found it to be just as successful there too. The PMD Personal Microderm really makes my skin feel smoother, and just, well... cleaner!? I'm not saying it wasn't clean anyway of course (cheeky!), but this super little device really makes me feel as if I've given my skin a thorough treat. After 2 weeks of using this I can already notice a big difference in the visibility of the pores on my face, and as an added bonus; the dry skin on my nose seems to have cleared up too! Awesome.

This little baby swoops in at £150, which to me is quite a lot of money to be honest. I know I wouldn't have gone out and bought this myself. However, now that I've seen the results and experienced it's magic for myself; I can confidently say that this price is extremely cheap considering all that it does and the quality it provides. I don't think I could bear going back to dry skin and pores that are painfully obvious from down the street! So yes, PMD has made a fan out of me.

Would you ever try the PMD Personal Microderm?

DIY Tassel Bunting

DIY Tassel Bunting cute

Happy Monday everyone! I know Mondays aren't particularly great for a lot of people, and even though I'm actually in work myself today with a long week ahead, I'm actually in a fantastic mood! I've spent the last few weeks concentrating on design work and social media work, which I'm SO glad for, but now is the time to put my heart and soul back into this blog. I love making this space somewhere I post at least 3-5 times a week with all my favourite things, and I haven't been able to do that as much lately.

So today is the start of a launch back into everything I love; I have posts lined up I've been meaning to do for ages, time scheduled just for blogging plans, and a bunch of enthusiasm to boot. Woohoo!

To kick this off with a bang, today I'm bringing you one of my favourite type of posts, a lovely little DIY! If you fancy creating a colourful little space for yourself at home within 10 minutes, then keep reading.

DIY Tassel Bunting cute

What you'll need:

A few pieces of coloured paper,
small pegs,
washi tape,
string,
scissors.

First, cut your pieces of paper into chunky squares. The size is totally up to you, but I did mine around 4x4 each. Consider how many tassels you want to create, as that's how many squares of paper you will need. Then you should use the scissors to cut the squares into strips of paper, with just a small space left at the top, keeping it all together.

paper DIY tassel

Next you'll want to roll each piece of paper up, with the strips of paper hanging down nicely. Secure in place with a piece of washi tape around the top of each tassel. You may even want to fluff out the paper a little to give it some 'oomph!'.

Now you're almost done! Keep going until you've created as many tassels as you need for your chosen space. Once you have enough, secure them to your string with some cute little pegs.

And viola! You have the cutest and colouful little decoration within minutes. You can even expand on this idea by adding glitter, teaming it with fairy lights, using patterned paper or hanging photographs. The possibilities are endless.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Find more of my DIY posts here.

Custom Portrait

illustration art
I've been pretty lucky over the past few months, but I'd say this is one of my luckiest and favourite moments; which happened this week. I follow Kayley on Instagram and I've been a fan of her illustrations for a while now. She has a unique and beautiful style and is extremely talented, so I was a fan immediately. So when she had an Instagram competition running for a custom portrait, I jumped at the chance and entered. I had no idea I'd end up winning, and was over the moon when she told me!

She managed to capture me in such a cute way I wouldn't have thought possible, and even decorated the piece with PINEAPPLES! If you don't know my love for pineapple prints by now, shame on you.

As well as doing a custom portrait of me which is awesome anyway, she included a few other of her illustrations for me to keep too! I am so happy and proud to be able to put them on display at home, and a huge thank you to Kayley for being so sweet.

I'd love if you all went and followed her on Instagram, Twitter or visited her Etsy store. Supporting small businesses and creatives is always so important!

Have a great weekend!

Sunday Catch Up

Good morning and happy Sunday to you all :]

I'm currently on day 1 of 3 days off, so today is a happy day for me for sure. A lot of it will be spent painting and designing to be honest, which is lovely. Then there's a meal and drinks planned for some fellow Liverpool bloggers on Tuesday which will be fun!
I thought I'd update you guys on life this week and do a little Sunday round up post.

Things I've Liked About This Week

Seeing Jurassic World - SO good! The only part that annoyed me was the main woman in it, her hair was perfect all the way through and I was like, NO.

Going shopping with mum.

Spoiling myself a little. I've ordered the cutest dress which will hopefully be here in a day or two, I found an awesome outfit in Primark, I bought some cute kawaii accessories and my new hair extensions are on their way too!

Watching Pretty Little Liars with Gary. It's happened. My constant watching of it in front of him means he has gotten into it a little and started watching it with me! Haha. This is kind of awesome as I love enjoying things together, even if he does take the piss out of most of it.

Orange Is The New Black. It's back, finally! I've loved having one of my fave shows back to binge on. Especially with the new addition of Ruby Rose, WOAH. I'm liking Alex more than ever in this season, and liking Piper a lot less :/ Which is odd, but there we go. I'm also a huge fan of this new Doggett and Boo friendship, so awesome.

Next Week

Working a lot, blehh.

Gary goes to Plymouth which means I'll be moping most likely.

However it'll give me a chance to get all my current design work out of the way. After it's all completed in around a week, I'll be taking a break from it. Not a huge one, only a week or two off from commissions, but I really need it. I'm extremely lucky that I've had a constant demand for illustrations, paintings etc since I started selling my work, but it's taken up a huge chunk of my time too. I haven't had a chance to paint just for fun, and I'd like to enjoy that again. So yeah, not a big deal but a break for a week or two will be great.

Possible chance of me getting my lip re-pierced. I've missed it so much! It depends though, as I usually spend all of my money lately before I think to save anything for it haha. But if I do I'll be very happy.

So that's where I am right now; very busy trying to keep up with designs and managing social accounts for clients. Loving every second though! If you'd like to get a closer glimpse into my daily life, you should follow me on Instagram.

What have you guys been doing this week? :]

Learning To Time Travel

Sometimes there are quiet moments, like right now. I'm completely alone, sitting up in bed, typing away under fairy lights with the windows open. I can hear the quietness of the city outside distantly settling. I can't hear anyone else, and I've been silent for hours. It feels as if there is peace in my mind. Peace and agony.

In these moments, I can travel through time.
If I close my eyes, let everything else fall away, and listen only to my own breathing for a moment; I can travel anywhere, to any time. I'm right there in those moments I thought were long gone.

I'm around nine years old and I'm riding my bike around the block repeatedly. I love it, I feel free and I like the breeze in my hair. I feel like I'm going on my own adventure, even though I'm really staying within a small radius around our house. Just one more go around the block Mum, I'll be in soon.
The sun is setting, and the sky is orange.

I'm twelve, and I'm standing in a corn field. I'm with friends, and I'm with a boy I like. We're about to kiss, everyone knows it. It's so awkward, forced and stupid, and everyone is watching. I don't want to do this wrong. But I do really want to kiss him. Just maybe not with everyone watching. I can feel the pit of my stomach churning. He's a little older than me, and really nice. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to kiss him first, or him me? I can hear people giggling, and a nearby river trickling away.

I'm 21. It's 4am and I'm sitting near the window, waiting. Hating myself a lot, feeling powerless. Not sure how to be myself anymore. Wondering if I'll be able to fix things so that he'll like me again. If I could just stop being so annoying, it'd be okay. I wonder if he'll see how much I care. I always feel like I'm bothering him, he makes me feel desperate. I'll just wait up another hour, that's it. I'll keep looking out the window and waiting.

I don't know how we got here, we were only supposed to go for one drink. Now I'm with the boys and we're all hammered. We're dancing like insane people, the music is good and we can't stop laughing. I have awesome friends, and I get to go home to my soul mate. I've spilled my drink, but no one even notices. It's loud and my ears are ringing. I wish I could bottle this feeling.
I get home, and there are roses waiting for me, I'm not sure what I did to deserve those. I'm so happy. I need sleep, and water. I collapse on the bed without changing clothes. Everything feels so good.

Sometimes I'll close my eyes and travel to a distant memory without meaning to, or to one I didn't even know I had. I'll feel that joy, or fear, or pain... all over again. It scares me sometimes, how ten years can feel like a moment ago. It's a good thing though mostly. It means I'm still me, it means people don't get left behind, you get to take them with you. It means you relive past pain, but you remember the lessons. It means you have gratitude for everything you've gained.

You can close your eyes, and go back through time to the most random, beautiful and strange moments. It's a gift.

We're all time travellers.

6 Important Life Lessons I've Learned

summer girl flowers

There are some things I wish I'd have learned earlier, there are some things that were heart-wrenchingly awful to learn, and there were some that changed my life for the better. Out of everything I've learned in my 27 years on this planet so far, here are the 6 life lessons I consider most important to me...

1. Never allow anyone to let you feel like second best, powerless or not good enough.

2. We are all really good at something.

3. People remember acts of kindness.

4. Being yourself is probably the best thing you can ever do for your life.

5. Nothing is forever.

6. Happiness is the only thing that matters in the end.

What do you consider your most important life lessons so far?

Lush Bubble Bar; 'Dorothy'

Hello lovelies and happy Wednesday! We're officially half way through the week now, and what better way to break up the hectic schedule than take a little 'me time'. Whether it's pampering yourself, reading a good book, going out with friends or binge watching Orange Is The New Black, - go for it!

Lush Bubble Bar Dorothy bath product

For me, a relaxing bath is the perfect way to spoil myself lately. I work around the clock almost everyday (as explained in my routine post) and spending some time doing nothing, enjoying the hot water and soaking my feet is the best feeling.

On these little occasions I always like to use something special I've picked up from Lush, and this week it's all about the Dorothy bubble bar. Ylang Ylang and orange flower absolute are combined to give a heavy floral frangrance, and if that's your thing then you will love this product. Imagine a garden full of wild flowers, with orange and tangerines nearby. The sweetest of scents, without being too overpowering.

You simply crumble this bar under running water and let it bubble away, turning the water a deep aquamarine colour. The uplifting scents, satisfying crumble and beautiful shade are bound to make you feel almost mermaid like. Plus if like me you are obsessed with anything colourful, especially rainbows; then this one will just appeal to you straight away for looking pretty in your bathroom. I almost felt sad to use it!

I loved this product, and will definitely be purchasing again.

What do you guys think? Have you tried Dorothy?

'Blog Tips' Posts & Why I'm Okay With Them

blog tips advice blogger successful

It's no secret that there has certainly been a rise in the numbers of blog tips posts out there in the blogosphere, I'm sure 90% of you know this already. I've even done one or two myself, such as Better Blogging in 6 Steps. This post was focused solely on my thoughts on things that have helped my blog to improve. I know that doesn't mean it's for everyone, and I certainly don't think I'm some blogging expert. However most of the time I tend to stick to things like 10 Things My Favourite Blogs Do, or the Get To Work On Your Blog post I did a few months ago, as these are posts where I'm confidently just stating facts about the things I like and the tools that I use.

Lately though, blog tips posts are getting a bad name. People are quite rightly moaning about bloggers who are acting preachy, or telling people what they have to do to run a blog; like there's an official rule book the rest of us don't know about or something. I totally get it; that's bullshit. Nobody can tell you how a blog should be written, presented, or run. It's yours, and that's the beauty of blogging. It can also be quite worrying if people are giving out wrong or bad advice, obviously.

However, even now I will be the first to say I love reading these kind of posts, and hear me out before you think I'm foolish. Here are five reasons why I'm still a fan of blog tips posts;

1. When they are done RIGHT, aka not preachy, or know it all; they can be really useful (especially for newer bloggers or those without tech knowledge).

2. They may shed light on something you've not thought of doing before.

3. Sharing your ideas/tips helps you reflect on your own progress. Defining what's worked and what hasn't for your own blog can be really eye opening.

4. I can always learn more!

5. These posts are another fantastic way to actually talk about blogging and all the little details and experiences that go with it. Do you know how amazing it is to read/interact/chat with other bloggers about this stuff when most of my friends don't even understand blogging?! I will never tire of that.

So yes, I know if done really wrong these posts can be just awful. But quite honestly I've never seen anyone publish anything telling me how I should or shouldn't be running my blog; but maybe I follow the right people? I love posts that just let me know what other bloggers out there are doing, and what has worked really well for them. In fact, let me take a little moment to mention Helen over at The Lovecats Inc for her awesome blog tips section, which I've found myself referring to time and time again. A perfect example of how they can be great.

So what do you guys think? Love 'em or hate 'em?

My Blogging Routine

Over the past year and a half I've developed into my own routine for blogging, which works perfectly for me and my life. Of course sometimes routine simply goes out of the window, due to busy schedules, events or just life in general; that's fine. But mostly, I stick to the same daily/weekly routine for all things to do with this blog, which I find so useful and keeps me organised. So today I thought I'd share that with you all, to give you a little insight into the Dorkface way of working.

Quick note; I work 2 (sometimes 3) days a week part time, and on those days as I'm sure you'd expect; my routine is very different. I spend the day in work, come home, enjoy chill out time with Gary and maybe go on Twitter for a little while. It's pretty much a chillout zone though.

So anyway, on to how I spend most of my days;

MORNINGS

I always wake up before 9am. I do try to get up by 7am most days, but sometimes I admit, It can be later. As much as I love sleep, I hate sleeping in because it makes me feel like I'm wasting the day and sends my whole routine out of whack. Coffee comes first, along with checking emails and notifications on social media. I'll be jotting down my daily to-do list, which puts everything in focus and helps me see what needs to get done.

I also manage social media for a number of clients, which means I always check their accounts in the mornings to see if they need to reply to anyone or address anything. Then I'll crack on planning out their social schedule for the next day or so.

AFTERNOON

By afternoon I'm well into writing out a blog post, keeping active on social media and trying to fit some chores in here somewhere. Sometimes I'll be taking photographs for a post, while I've got clothes in the washing machine, I'm snacking on some lunch and tidying around me as I go. I will stop for a little break around 1:30pm and give myself a proper dinner hour to chill out, watch Pretty Little Liars (no spoilers please!) and play with Luna. After that it's back to it though, crossing off as much on my to do list as possible. I try to take all my photographs between 11am-3pm as that's when I get some amazing light throughout the flat.

Around 3/4pm I'll take a break from all the typing and organisational side of things, by giving myself time to do something creative. Lately this has focused mostly on designs I've been doing for people, whether its a custom portrait or blog header, etc. I'll clear my desk, get the paints out and listen to a Spotify playlist as I go. This is one of my favourite parts of the day.

EVENING

Around 6pm every night Gary and I will have dinner together and watch one of our favourite shows, usually How I Met Your Mother, Bob's Burgers or Friends. I'll also try to make it to a Twitter chat if I know there's one on that I like. Mostly we spend an hour or two together though doing nothing, which is lovely.

From 8pm onward it's all about ticking off the remaining items on my to-do list. I like to have completed at least one post each day, scheduled all my social media tweets, posts, etc for myself and my clients, and done some design work for people too.
This is the time when I update my spreadsheets too, to mark off what posts I've done, what needs doing and how my stats are looking. I got this idea from Hayley over at Tea Party Beauty, and it's helped me drastically improve my focus.

Yes I've blurred some upcoming post as I don't want to spoil the surprises haha!

As you can see I write down all my posts I plan to do for the next month or so, and I colour code where I am in completing each one. Green means I've fully completed it, wrote it, got my images and scheduled it. Yellow means I only have the photo, blue means I've wrote it but haven't gotten an image yet, and red means it's a no post day (even I need little breaks!).
I also have a separate sheet I use for all my stats such as daily visits, Bloglovin followers, Twitter followers, Instagram followers, etc.

I realise that's a lot, and probably seems way too much work for a lot of you reading this. But I've said before how passionate I am about my blog and how I want to improve in every way possible, so I enjoy treating it like a job. My theory is if I treat it like my job, one day it will be my job. Or at least lead me into the right direction...

After that, it's around 11pm, so I'll have a shower, maybe read my book, and then go to bed if I'm in work the next day. If I'm not in work then you can guarantee I'll be awake until at least 2am doing all sorts still :)

I hope this gave you guys some insight into my days, and maybe even suggested something you could do for your own blog?
And before I go I would just like to say that YES Gary and I actually go out, do things, see friends etc, but I plan for these days ahead. This post was a representation of my typical day at home, but not every day :)

Thanks for reading!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

I'm guessing that almost every beauty guru, blogger, enthusiast or makeup artist out there has probably tried this concealer before me, I'm convinced!

collection lasting perfection concealer makeup beauty
collection lasting perfection concealer makeup beauty
So what's my excuse been? Because it certainly can't be the price tag. This little beauty clocks in at a tiny price of only £4.19 on the Boots website. Admittedly, it's probably not been on my radar much because I already have eye brighteners and concealers I was pretty happy with, and I'd kind of accepted that my eyes were never going to look perfect.

Oh how wrong I was.
After I'd finally given in and brought this bad boy home to try, my eyes were ever so grateful. It's easy to apply as it has a small brush head, and to be honest I use my fingers to smooth it into my skin. I have plenty of brushes, but I find warming it into my skin with my fingers creates a more even application, and gets into every curve of my eyelid.

Any evidence of a late night is instantly gone, and those annoying veins I seem to have on my eyelids are banished! My eyes are brighter, smooth and perfect. It seems to last all day too, which is handy when I'm working long days. I haven't put it to the test of 16 hours it claims to be able to handle, but it easily lasts 8 or 9; and I'm pretty happy with that anyway.

This product has now become my go to in the morning; it's the one thing I feel I need above all others. I never thought I'd see the day when anything would top my beloved Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, but Collection's Lasting Perfection Concealer might have just tipped the scales a little. I thoroughly recommend you guys try it if you haven't already, especially if you suffer with dak circles like me!

Let me know what your favourite concealers are?

Inspiration Moodboard: KAPOW

Inspiration Moodboards? Yeah, they're my thing.

inspiration moodboard colourful tumblr

This is my first inspiration moodboard I've done in absolutely ages, and I'm so happy I got the chance this week. Making these allows me to let some creativity out in a simple way, even when I'm too tired to draw or pick or a paintbrush. It also inspires me for other projects, and provides an endless source of motivation and ideas.

This one is a visual representation of everything I'm feelin' lately. Bold colours, clashing prints, cheesy/kawaii styles. Almost 90's in a way, 'comic-y'. I feel like it's very Tumblr. I love it.

I'm going to be start printing all my moodboards and hanging them up around my desk, for ultimate inspiration bursts. I'll probably share some photos when I eventually get around to this.

So what do you guys think?
And what's been inspiring you lately?

My Travel Bucket List

holiday travel bucket list destinations
I'm not the best traveler if truth be told; I prefer perfect hotel sheets and hot showers, to camping or being spontaneous. It's not that I don't want to be adventurous, I really do. My hair straighteners and me have a very nice relationship though, and I'd hate to mess that up.

However, there are 5 destinations I would absolutely love to visit in any way possible, even if it meant relying less on electronics and air conditioner. But I hope my hair straighteners and I get to go together someday...

1. Japan.
This is every Kawaii girls dream, right? Can you even imagine how mental I would go in the Hello Kitty themed shops?! My Instagram would love me for it. Plus Tokyo Disney, Mount Fuji, Tokyo National Museum... I need to go!

2. Seattle
I don't know why, but Seattle has always been top of mylist for places I'd like to visit in America, and just in the world really. It seems like the perfect blend of US culture, kind of similar to British weather sometimes (I like rain so that's okay) and still vastly different. Also I mean this is where grunge basically came alive, so duhh.

3. Venice
Oh Italy, if I could visit every single city I would be so happy. However, I'll settle for Venice. Gondola's across the Grand Canal, St Mark's Basilica and yummy Italian food? Where's my passport?...

4. Bali
Just google photographs from Bali, seriously. Have you done it? Yes? Okay so do I really need to explain this one?..

5. Iceland
Last but definitely not least, Iceland has been on my wishlist for a long, long time now. It just seems so peaceful and soothing; I imagine it'd be wonderful to visit. I dream of seeing the Northern Lights, soaking in The Blue Lagoon and whale watching.

Where would you like to visit most?

An Interview With Tara

1. Introduce yourself and your blog?
Hey! I’m Tara but I go by name Catstello online. My personal blog is Cattitude & Co and I’m a co-founder of feminist lifestyle blog Zusterschap. You can find a lot of life lessons, feminism driven posts, personal experiences and amazing female bloggers on both blogs <3

2. Who/what are your inspirations?
I’m a big believer in trusting your struggles so I find a lot of inspiration from personal experience, as cheesy as that sounds. Women make me stronger and inspire me daily, whether it’s my favourite female bloggers, celebrities or inspiring stories I read online.

3. What would you like to inspire in others?
One of the main reasons Katherine and I started Zusterschap was to give women who want to challenge social norms a voice. I would love to inspire others out there to reject or challenge things that make women feel bad about themselves. Challenging beauty standards is a big theme over at Zusterschap because if you think about it, they’re all made up anyway. There’s more than one way to be beautiful.

4. What are your favourite type of blog posts to read?
There’s so much great content out there but my favourites to read would be personal experiences, feminist rants or posts that aim to inspire people. I really enjoyed my friend Jacky’s #MayMakers series.

5. Proudest moment so far?
Aside from going viral and inspiring hundreds of women to embrace their bodies, my proudest moment happened last month. I conquered a life long fear of public speaking at Young Feminist London’s event YFL Presents. I had to speak into a mic and everything! It was really scary but it felt so good after to say “I finally did it!”.

6. If you could be known for one thing, what would it be?
That’s a great question. I guess I would like to be known for being an inspiring feminist and making a change. One can dream right? I would like to think I’m currently known for helping women feel more positively about themselves.

7. How would you like your blog to develop?
I would love for Zusterschap to become a household name!

8. Do you have any life goals?
My current life goals are to find full-time work and maintain a positive mental attitude 24/7. It’s hard but I think I’m the right track. Last year my anxiety was at an all time high and just last month I kicked anxiety’s butt and spoke on stage to an audience!

9. Have you changed in anyway since you began blogging?
Yes definitely. Blogging has done wonders for my confidence and I would go as far as saying it saved me from depression. It’s given me a sense of purpose, helped me maintain my anxiety, impressed employers and I’ve made some amazing friends.

10. Tell us 3 random things about yourself?
1. I have no sense of smell.
2. Bad boyfriends made me a feminist
3. I’m also a vegetarian.

Thanks so much to Tara for letting me grill her, you are such a positive inspiration to me. I hope I can inspire others one day like you do me. xx
