Punky Pins Halloween Bundle

I couldn't be happier to say that the Halloween spirit is most definitely upon us all! I'm seeing pumpkins everywhere, bat garlands, fake spiderwebs and the horror movies are all over Netflix. I am loving this.

To top it all off, I was sent the cutest spooky box of surprises from Punky Pins*!

Sunday Catch Up: Artwork, Moving, Look After Myself.

Bonjour!

I hope this weekend is going well for you all :) This is my favourite part of the week, because I get to sit back, organise my workload, take stock of how the week has gone, and pamper myself a bit. Though as a freelancer, I can work to any schedule I like; I do enjoy keeping Sundays as those days to chill out still.

This week I've been creating a lot of artwork, both simply for myself, for my Etsy shop and for custom work people have booked with me. It's been awesome overall, but my tablet did die on me this week and cause such a hassle, but that's all sorted now thankfully! My favourite creations have been the 'Girl Power' print shown above, and the cute heart garland shown below. I love anything girly as you can see!

Favourites In My Mailbox

Happy weekend guys! I hope you're enjoying it. It's super rainy here which means I'm extremely happy, and currently typing away while wrapped in a blanket listening to the rain hit the window. Perfect.

I've had some pretty special bits and bobs make their way to my mailbox recently, and I thought it would be fun to share with you guys since I haven't done a mailbox post in a few weeks! I also love hearing about fun things you guys have gotten in the mail, so do share in the comments! :)

One of the most unique things has been the Fashion Mash-Up book (shown above) from Penguin; which is a deluxe dress up book filled with styling tips, observations on fashion trends throughout history, and quirky illustrations. This beautiful book is so unique and a wonderful addition to my bookshelf. I especially love the pages of gorgeous stickers!

15 Inspiring Blog Posts Recently

For the past two weeks I've really made extra special time to delve into blogging. By that I don't mean writing my own posts (of course there's that too), but by reading lots of wonderful posts from others. I have gone through all my bookmarked blogs, and tried to keep up to date with all of my favourites (though this is extremely hard as there really is a lot!) and I've also tried to find new blogs through Twitter and Bloglovin too. Finding new blogs is especially awesome, as it keeps my feed fresh and makes sure I always have that real LOVE for blogs and blogging in general.

With this in mind, I tried to keep a note of all my favourite posts I've seen bobbing around this vast internet space recently, and report back to you guys. These are my 15 favourite blog posts which have inspired me lately, and I hope they inspire you too!

Perhaps you'll find a spark of motivation in one of these posts, perhaps one will make you giggle at your desk as you pretend to work, and perhaps you'll find your favourite new blogger of all time. I certainly hope so.

Enjoy!

The Best Italian Food In Liverpool; Il Forno

I apologise now if this blog post makes you hungry, and I'd understand! I myself am staring at these photos with longing, wondering when to next make another trip to Il Forno, in the heart of Liverpool. You see I recently had my very first visit there, along with Gary, and it basically rocked our socks. Yep.

Il Forno can be found on Duke street in Liverpool, and I was recently invited to come down and try their lunch menu to see what I thought. Italian is my absolute favourite type of food, so I was more than happy to give it a try. So off along I popped, with Gary in tow, to pay them a visit.

Desk Tour

Hi guys!

It's only been two or three days since my last blog post, but I feel like I've been absent for ages! Life last week seemed to just pile up on me, and blogging was put on hold for a few days; meaning my usual post-every-single-day-sort-of-schedule, got kind of messed up.

But anyway, you may have seen from my Snapchat or Instagram (which always stay active by the way!) that I recently redid my whole workspace and bought a new desk. I'm so happy with how it turned out, that I thought I'd share some snaps of it with you guys today.

15 Things That Happen When You Get Engaged

There's no denying that someone proposing to you, like, actually getting down on one knee and asking you to spend the rest of your life with them; is a huge deal. It's life changing (if you say yes..) and a story you'll probably tell over and over again.

But what about afterwards? After the putting on the ring and saying yes bit? After the promise to stick it out until you're old and wrinkly? What then?

Here are fifteen things that happen after that moment (well, here's fifteen things that have happened to me)...

1. You immediately have to tell EVERYONE. I don't just mean your mum and BFF, I mean every single person you possibly can. You want that news out there, in Twitterland, on Facebook, with Insta photos. Who knows why? Maybe just because you always found it annoying when an engagement popped up on your Facebook feed, so now you want your own revenge? Maybe just to avoid phoning everyone in your family, or having friends say 'Why didn't you tell me?!' as soon as they find out. Either way, you better believe the whole world is finding out, with pictures.

Have we called the local paper yet? Surely they'll want to know!

7 Things I Miss From My Teens

1. Being an emo.
Yeah, I said it. It's just not socially acceptable anymore. Plus I'm nearly 30. But by god I do miss that heavy AF black eyeliner, emo fringe, fishnet gloves and only living in band tshirts.

2. Nickelodeon TV shows.
Sister Sister, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and Kenan and Kel were MY JAM once I got home from school. I swear I could never decide which was my fave (Sister Sister, maybe). They were the perfect trio of shows that played one after the other. Ooh! And remeber Nickelodeon used to do that 'Vote or what plays next' thing? God the money I wasted.. (Sorry Mum).

Get To Know Me; The A - Z Of Jemma

Why not eh? Let's get to know the top tit behind this blog.

A - Alcohol - I like it, a lot. You can often find me drunk snapping/blogging/youtubing. It's a thing.

B - Best friend. Her name is Charlie, she's a little bit Chinese, a lot scouse. She cried when she 'came out' to me, and I met her at college. She is a big personality and I adore her.

C - Colourful hair. I don't tend to stick with natural colours, so blue, green, purple, pinks, etc are all okay with me. It changes often too.

Also Criminal Minds is one of my fave tv shows ever.

My 2am Existential Crisis

It's been a strange few weeks for me guys, I have to admit. A bit of an emotional rollercoaster, you could say.

Perhaps you were one of the few people awake and active on Twitter about a week or so ago, when I was having a meltdown. It was around 2am and I was a sobbing, crying mess scared of getting old and dying and making lots of mistakes with my life. I called my best friend crying, and must have terrified her, only to answer when she asked what's wrong, with; 'I'm scared you might die, or I might die, and we'll be DEAD and what if you don't even know you're my best mate?!' - she laughed, a lot. And then I laughed. I realised how ridiculous it was.

Let me back up a little here for you guys and try to explain.
I'm sorry if some of this is vague, but I'm worried that because this blog goes through to my Facebook, some people might read this post and I'd rather they didn't know certain things. I'm much more open on Twitter about everything though, as I know these people don't use Twitter. So, to get to the point - sorry if it seems like I'm being vague at all, but bear with me!

Goodbye September

September has come and gone in the craziest, quickest fashion ever! I can't believe it's officially October tomorrow, my favourite month.

This month has had some amazing highlights; getting engaged, getting nominated for three Bloggers Blog Awards, catching up with old friends, creating some new products for sale that I'm really happy with, getting involved with some awesome blog collaborations, and FINALLY getting on top of my schedule so it's a little more enjoyable, a lot less crazy.

Print available to purchase here.

6 Things I Hate About Facebook

There are so many social media channels and platforms out there, sometimes it's hard to keep up with them all. Usually one or two favourites rises up for each of us. The ones we spend more time on, that make us feel happiest, or maybe more creative.

Today however I thought I'd chat to you guys about my absolute worst. The social media channel I loathe, basically, but still have. Join me in this Facebook hate fest wont you?

Here are 6 reasons I only log in once a week and barely stay on for more than two minutes.

September Advertisers

It's that time again where I get to share the love and tell you guys all about my advertisers for the month. This is so important to me, because I literally rely on these guys for support, and I genuinely want them to get that support back. They truly deserve it and it's a fantastic way to discover new people to follow too!

Benecos New Makeup Range

Happy hump day everyone! I hope this week is treating you well so far. I'm currently trying to bash my way clumsily through my huge to-do list, hoping it'll all be done on time for the weekend. I'm attending the Bloggers Blog Awards in Leeds, and I want my schedule to be as free as possible to enjoy the day with a clear head.

Darker, vampier shades are becoming more popular now that Autumn is here; and the new makeup range from Benecos is celebrating that! I was lucky enough to be sent some of this range to try out for myself, and you know I love any excuse to try new makeup, right?

New Beauty: 4U2 Cosmetics

Happy Monday! I hope the week has kicked off well for you guys; lots of motivation and good vibes, yes?

I'm feeling rather determined to have a good week, especially since The Bloggers Blog Awards are this weekend and I'll be catching up with old friends too. Last week kept trying to drag me down truthfully, and I'm hoping this week goes a lot better!

I was recently lucky enough to be sent some of 4U2 Cosmetics Lipaholic lipstick collection* and I can't tell you how thrilled I was opening my post that day! Just look at all those beautiful shades. There's almost something for everyone, so I felt spoiled for choice.

Wedding Wishlist, Ideas & Plans

So as I'm sure all of you now know; I recently got engaged. Among the champagne celebrations and staring at my new ring for hours on end, I've been planning the wedding already in my head.

Nothing absolutely set in stone of course, I'm simply enjoying looking at dresses, venues and pinning ideas on Pinterest. I suppose this is the nice easy part, the beginning, before all the stress.

I've always known what sort of wedding I want to be honest, and I really hope I can pull it off. I thought I'd share with you guys my first ideas I've been putting together, and it'll be fun to see how these things change nearer the time really.

Autumn Makeup With A Twist

I love lots of colour, and no matter what look I'm going for, I always like to make it vibrant if possible. So with Autumn now here, I've been looking for ways to alter my everyday makeup look a little.

I wanted something fun and unique, but leaning towards the Autumn hues and not necessarily sticking to the nude/brown shades. I wanted some hints of purple and gold too, as they're faves of mine and I thought they seemed appropriate for the season.

Faves In My Mailbox: Lipstick, Jewellery, Phone Stuff.

Hello hello helloooo!

Did you like my Rupaul impression? No? Okay I'll stop.

The past two weeks have been awesome for goodies in the mail, so much so that I couldn't wait until next week to show them to you guys (when I originally scheduled this post!).

I was lucky enough to be sent my own set of personalised matte lipsticks* from Crowd Colour; all featuring the Dorkface name and an extra dose of sass! The novelty of such pretty and personal beauty products is enough to draw me in; but the products themselves are so lovely that they're something I keep coming back to.

10 Things That Make Me Feel Better After A Shitty Day

Bad days happen to us all unfortunately, and we all have our own ways of dealing with them. Today I thought I'd share with you guys some of my top tips on how I deal with those days that leave me wanting to just get in bed and ignore the world.

Hope it helps!

1. A good moan always help relieve whatever is bothering me; so let it all out! Phone your bestie, rant to the other half while they rub your feet, or simply rant on snapchat; fuck it.

2. Run yourself a hot bath, pop in a bath bomb/some oils, light some candles and relaaaxx. PERFECT.

3. Watching stand up shows always helps me get out of a bad mood. Before I know it I'm laughing my ass off. Faves include Louis CK, Chelsea Peretti, and Chris Rock.

Trying The B. Range At Superdrug

A quick post today to share my joy at finally trying some of Superdrug's own B. range of makeup products - yay!

I recently logged onto Superdrug's website and filled my basket with my usual loves, when I spotted the B. makeup range which I realised I'd never tried before. They had some fantastic bargains on, so I didn't see the harm in adding a few things from the range on there too! Any excuse to buy more makeup really.

I'm Engaged!

Yes, he popped the question!

Apologies to anyone who already knows this and caught the news on social media; but I had to do a little blog post to celebrate our great news. On September 16th at roughly midday; Gary got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. Never in my life have I been more shocked, overwhelmed, and happy. I of course said yes immediately.

Gary and I have been together since May 6th 2011, so almost five and a half years ago now. We met in the strangest of ways; through randomly starting up a conversation on Tumblr. Rather than it turn out to be like a bad episode of Criminal Minds though, it actually ended up being wonderful.

Through our constant chatting online, phone calls, and travelling to visit, we got to know each other more than we had with anyone else before. We discovered we both loved Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, we both had a lot of creative hobbies, and we both kind of wanted to travel around the world, but also kind of wanted to just play video games in our pj's too.

Party Style With Simply Be

It's creeping closer and closer to the end of the year, and that inevitable 'party season' where we all get a bit more glammed up and glitzy.

I myself don't particularly do parties; but there are lots of family plans, special blog events, romantic meals and drinks out with the other half, and seeing friends for a cocktail or two after work. With Autumn and Winter just around the corner; I love to embrace darker colours, add a little glitter where I can and look my best in outfits that are appropriate for all these types of events.

Keeping this in mind, Simply Be recently got in touch with me and asked if I'd like to try anything from their amazing selection of partywear, and I browsed their website for what seemed like hours, trying to decide on what awesome piece I would choose.

Beauty Basics: Hair, Nails & Teeth

I could talk all day about my love for a good highlighter, my obsession with blushers and my favourite lip products. But on the days where I really can't bothered wearing makeup, there are still those basic beauty products that I know and love. The essentials that keep me feeling 'tip top' even on lazy Sundays.

Hair, nails and teeth; my mum always said to look after those three things. And although I might have been naughty and bleached my hair, bitten my nails, and had way to many sugary sweets in my time; there are still fantastic products out there to help me keep them looking good.

8 Ways To Get Excited About Autumn

As you all probably know; Autumn is my favourite season, and I'm super excited to embrace this time of year with open arms. I started embracing it from September first actually, even though technically it's not Autumn until the 22nd. But who cares, eh?

Today I thought I'd share with you guys some of the ways I've been embracing that Autumn feeling, and how you can get into the seasonal spirit yourself. I hope you enjoy!

8 Way to feel Autumnal-

1. Plan out your key Autumn outfits - buy some cute scarves, the perfect rainy day coat, and a bunch of jumpers/cardigans!

2. Start a seasonal scrapbook! Try to take photos often to highlight the most 'Autumnal' moments; rain hitting the windows, the fire burning, fireworks in the sky, leaves on the ground, and whatever else you can think of!

20 Thoughts About Blogging

A post for all the blog related things I often think to myself, or have at least been thinking lately.

1. Blogging has totally given me a crazy social media addiction. It's awful, and yet I love it. I don't care if I'm that annoying cow Instagram-ing every meal and tweeting until the wee hours of the night, I ROCK IT.

2. I'm constantly inspired by the writings of others, it's amazing.

3. I love that I've started doing Youtube, it's literally just for fun though. Blogging will always have my little heart.

4. I wonder how things will change in the next 5 years for blogging? Hmm...

Organic Beauty: Pacifica Solar Colour Palette

Is this one of the prettiest palette's you've seen or what?

It certainly adds a colourful charm to my own collection, and I'm thrilled! This is the Pacifica Solar Colour Mineral Palette* from Naturally Better You. This palette has a range of eyeshadow, blush, bronzer and highlighter - making it the ultimate easy carry around for everything. This is an organic and cruelty free palette that is infused with coconut to give your skin a wonderful drop of luxurious moisture in the process.

The lovely folk over at Naturally Better You (NBY) asked me if I'd like to sample anything from their website, and this palette screamed out at me and demanded that I give it a try. So they very kindly sent me a voucher code free to spend on site.

Sunday Catch Up

Happy Sunday one and all!

I've been having the best weekend ever, and I feel like I'm finally 'myself' again after about a month of being a bit iffy. It's probably because I've been catching up on all my work, so I'm less stressed, and I have new projects I'm excited about.

I was so happy that my last post about Working From Home got a good reception - thank you all for reading it! I know it was a little bit long, but there was so much that needed to be said, explained, and mentioned really :) But thank you for all the support, it's meant the world to me!

I'm absolutely thrilled that our flat is looking more and more Autumnal everyday, I'm getting right in the spirit! I've been trying out a few cute DIY projects that I'll share with you guys soon, and you may have seen I now have Halloween bunting available on my Etsy to get ready for the upcoming holiday. I know it's over a month away, but I like to make the most of it! I think it'll be cute to use for Halloween themed Youtube videos too!

Working From Home: One Year On

Last month I celebrated the fact that I've been working for myself for one whole year now. I knew it was coming up close, but I only realised the specific date when Facebook memories alerted me back to the day I quit my job and tried to make something for myself.

I get a little quiver of fear even just thinking back to that time, it was terrifying! It still is pretty scary to be honest, but I mostly get used to 'the fear' now, and welcome it as a motivational tool. If you've seen my Youtube video about my Job History, you'll know that throughout College/University and afterwards; I jumped from job to job not quite sure what to do with myself. I felt very lost.

Then one day I started a blog and began building 'Dorkface'. I shared my creative side, and I started selling my skills whenever possible. Designing logos/blog headers, doing custom artwork/portraits, etc. Whatever I could do to earn some extra pennies and make the most of my love for all things creative. After about a year, I was in a position where I could either quit my safe job and risk it all, knowing it would be a struggle - or I could just keep doing the little things I had been struggling to do after work/at weekends, leaving me with not much hope of growth with such limited time.

So I took that scary step, and left my job.
I also cried a bit.

Liverpool Metquarter Beauty

Last week you may have seen on Twitter that I had the most incredible day visiting Liverpool Metquarter, and I'm so happy (and a proud Scouser!) to share with you guys why it was so awesome.

Metquarter is one of Liverpool's absolute hotspots for shopping, and one of my fave places to find a bunch of brands I adore. All under one roof you'll find some of my favourite stores such as MAC, Illamasqua, Jo Malone, Kurt Keiger, Wall To Wall Art Gallery, Paperchase and much more. It's the reason I'm able to grab all my Christmas presents easily each year within an hour or two! (So you'll probably see a blog post near this Christmas sharing all the goodies I've grabbed!).

I was lucky enough to be invited down to Metquarter for their beauty day, getting to experience the best they could offer from Sassoon, Illamasqua and Urban Calm. I had no idea what to expect really, so took an eager trip down to see what it was all about.

Favourites In My Mailbox

It's time for another round up of my mailbox bits and bobs, yay! I've had quite a range of things arriving lately, that I've been excited about. There's been a lot in my mailbox, but I've tried to be really choosy and picky with what I share. So grab a cuppa and settle in for a gander at my faves :)

Cute Clothing & Accessories From SammyDress

I recently got super excited when browsing the Sammydress website, as I'd found a whole bunch of adorable clothes that I instantly fell in love with.

It's not usually so easy to find things I love. Shops online either don't offer a plus size range, they only do ugly clothes, they have prices I can't afford, or they don't offer a range of styles. It's really hard to find cute clothing that suits me. I can see maxi dresses and bodycons for days... but no adorable skater dresses that fit in with my cute/casua/kawaii/dressing younger than I really am - sort of style that I aim for.

Until recently that is! I was super happy with the awesome range from Sammydress, where they sell a huge range of wholesale clothes for everyone.

Ideal World Beauty Range

I'm always looking for new places to buy beauty products. I'm happy to browse shops online and offline, in the hopes of finding some exciting new products or brands to try, or maybe even a bargain too.

One place I hadn't thought of trying until recently, is Ideal World; the home of TV shopping.I really hadn't even ever given it a thought! Probably because I don't tend to ever watch TV. But it seems I've been missing out! Ideal World offered to send out some samples from their extensive beauty range for me, and I was intrigued as to what they had on offer.

Sunday Slumber

Happy Sunday everyone!

I hope the weekend has been kind to you, whatever you've been doing. Some of you may be wrapped in a duvet reading this, some may be on their way out for a day of adventuring. Me however? I plan on spending the whole day taking blog photos and organising my schedule.

I've had my blog schedule planned for September for aaaggges, but I think I want to mix things up a little. I have some new ideas for posts I'd like to work in there, which I think you guys will like. So yeah, all about organising and prep today! Fun blog things basically.

Let's #ShareASmile With Getting Personal

There's nothing like getting pretty prezzies in the mail! I recently got involved with Getting Personal's #ShareASmile campaign; and it's bloody cute. If you're unfamiliar with Getting Personal, they're a gifting website focused on making presents a little bit extra special, with a bunch of customisation options.

They decided to launch the #ShareASmile campaign, letting a bunch of us bloggers all send gifts to each other - a bit of an online pass the parcel - yay! I chose to send on some gifts to Fii, and I was lucky enough to receive some goodies from the gorgeous Angi, who chose SO WELL for me!

Treats For Both Of Us.

Hi guys! Happy Friday, I hope you're all looking forward to the weekend.

I'm really excited about my whole new look here on the blog - you may notice things look a little different and I'm really excited about it. There are a few tiny tweaks that need doing still, but I definitely feel like this blog represents me a little more now. Plus I now get a creative little header, which I think suits me more!

Anyway, for the best few weeks Gary and I have both been enjoying a few little treats that I wanted to chat about today - and I thought you guys would like! :)

Autumn Beauty

It's September first!! YAY! I make no apologies for saying I am celebrating Autumn right this moment and I am extremely happy about going into September, officially getting closer to cold dark days, rain, fairy lights, fireworks and candy apples. This is my most favourite time of year, I am THRILLED.

So to kick off into Autumn I thought I'd share with you guys the first awesome beauty bits I've been buying that I think are perfect for the season.

Shown above from left to right are; Rimmel's Kate '08', GOSH 168 'Diva', GOSH 008 'Plum', GOSH 10 'Smoothie' and then B.Complete in 110 'Mulberry'. Can you tell I love GOSH lippies?

Erin is one of my FAVE bloggers around, and for good reason too. She writes passionately, shares snippets of her life, chats about important issues, and her love for creative writing gets me every time!

Emmas Bookery-
Emma's awesome blog focuses of lifestyle posts, mental health issues, book reviews & much more! Definitely give her a follow, and you won't regret it.

The Eggplant Emoji-
FUNNY. Honest. Lovely. That's the first three things that come to mind with Emma's channel. She's such a fab Youtuber and I reckon you'll all be smart to go sub to her :)

Favourites In My Mailbox

As a blogger we can often get sent quite a few things in the post from PR's and brands looking for us to try their products; sounds great eh? But any blogger will tell you that this can be totally hit and miss, and even if you like a product; it takes a lot of time and hard work to photograph, review, promote each thing. That's not a complaint, that's just fact.

So for me personally, I try to be really picky about what I feature. Is it worth my time and work? Do I really love it? Is this something new or exciting I'd like to talk about? Is it a brand who have gone out of their way to make it special? A lot of thought goes into what I feature on this blog. Which is why from August, I decided to make a change about how I feature a lot of products on this blog. I'll still have stand alone posts on particular products that I love and want to feature; but I'll also have 'Favourites In My Mailbox' posts every two or three weeks, like this one today. These posts will mean I've chosen a select few things I've been sent, that I think I'd like to chat about. I will not be featuring every single PR sample I'm sent and I will try bunch together a diverse range of products to feature in each of these posts.

New Hair, New Season.

As many of you know, I love a good makeover; especially with my hair. Every few months a change of colour or style can feel like a great refresh, and I was especially excited to bring in Autumn with a new look. Autumn isn't quiiiite here yet officially, but I'm excited.

Up until last week, my hair was a light turquoise/greenish shade, and I decided I wanted a change. I still wanted to stay colourful though, of course! So I decided a deep royal blue, and purple ends would be a fantastic change. What better way to stay colourful but still embrace the cooler months? Go for cold colours, yay!

So last week I got some extensions from Hot Hair* and some hair dye from Colour Freedom*. Many of you will already know I'm a huuuuge fan of hair extensions, because the problem with colouring my hair so much all year round; is that I need to get it trimmed often to keep it looking healthy, and that can mean it's hard to grow longer. Extensions means I don't have to worry, I can have the best of both world. However sometimes it can be tricky to find a supplier that I love and trust.

10 Childish Things To Embrace

Getting older is one of my greatest fears, and it's absolutely ridiculous really. After all there's zero I can do about it, so I might as well let it go. Easier said than done of course. Ageing is going to happen whether I like it or not (most certainly not, thank you very much).

However, I can take care of myself, and use all the magic potions and creams I can find to make me look younger if I wish. But it's worth remembering there are aspects of my life other than appearance that could do with a 'younger' frame of mind.

There are most certainly awesome aspects of getting older that I treasure, but today I thought I'd share with you guys the 10 things one might consider childish, that I'm determined to hold on to.

1. Jumping in puddles/piles of leaves.
Let's stop moaning about the weather and see it for the fun it can be eh?

2. Cartoons.
Gimme ALL the cartoons! I wrote a post featuring some of the cartoons I love a while ago, and you better believe my love for all things animated only grows. Whoever said cartoons are for kids seriously hasn't got a clue.
