Valentines is just peeping around the corner, and this will no doubt bring 'Yay!'s from some, and 'Naayyy's from others as always. I'm one of those in the first camp, I absolutely love it! Now before some of you think it, I know it's been commercialised to hell and back, and I know you shouldn't need a day to remind you to treat your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/partner extra special. I 100% agree with you on that, and there's nothing more sad than a couple who don't make an effort all year around, and then suddenly feel they have to go out to buy flowers and gifts etc.
But here's the thing; I'm lucky enough to be in a loving relationship where we do show affection all year around. And I'm not saying this to brag, because I just believe it's how it should be. I've also been single on Valentines day, and still enjoyed it a lot. The point is to make the most of it in the best way possible. And isn't that a good life lesson anyway? Find happiness in everything! It doesn't really matter how you do it, just don't moan about it, and see it as an excuse to be even nicer to yourself, or someone else!
So, I decided to jot down some ideas of things you can do to make the most of Valentines this year whether single, loved up, or... in-between? ;)
- - Pick the bestest, feel good movies and have a marathon surrounded by blankets, cushions and plenty of yummy snacks. Invite a friend, or enjoy it alone! And I mean that, enjoy it.
- - Pack a picnic and surprise someone with a spontaneous day!
- - Write a list of reasons why you care for someone on notes, fold them up and put them in a jar. Leave the jar somewhere they will find them.
- - Send an anonymous Valentine to someone who needs an extra smile :)
- - Cook a meal from scratch, light some candles, and enjoy making your other half feel special.
- -Write cute post it notes and stick them in random places around the house for someone to find.
- -Run yourself a gorgeous bath, using candles and bath bombs. Extra points for music playing.
- -Offer to do 3 good deeds for the day. You'll make someone else feel good!
- Vow to do something you've always wanted to do! Treat yourself!
- Remember that loving yourself is just as important as loving someone else.
Hope everyone has the bestest Valentines ever! x

Awwww I absolutely loved this post Jemma! I am a hopeless romantic and adore valentines day but i agree everyone should spread the love all year round. We are very lucky to have loving partners all the time.
ReplyDeleteI love to send my friends little valentines card (single and friends in relationships) I think its nice to just add a little happiness to all your loved ones days.
Have you got anything nice planned for the day?
Sending you lots of love xxxxx
Aww you sound exactly like me Collette! I'm planning on sending a few cards out this week for people <3
DeleteMy boyfriend and I are always very romantic anyway, which is nice. we're saving money for Amsterdam currently, so can't do much for the day. But I've bought him a special edition of a collectors book he's after, and we've booked time off work to spend together :) Very happy about this!
Lots of love to you too! xx
These are such good ideas! My boyfriend and I don't usually go too over the top for Valentines but we make sure to eat something yummy haha. This year I'm working on the day itself so we're going out for tapas the next day and then going trampolining the weekend after... just for something a bit different to our usual dates! x

That sounds amazing Charlotte! I love anything a bit different, and making it so fun sounds awesome! <3
DeleteI just think Valentines is a great time to just show love, whether it be to a partner, yourself, a friend or family :) xxx
This is so cute. I, however, mostly plan on just buying myself loads and loads of make up and eating everything we have in the house...

I know, I think I'm gona do that myself hehe! xx
DeleteSuper great feel good post Jem!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what I think of the day haha, we neither celebrate it, nor do we hate it...we just kind of let it pass by, but with it being a Saturday we probably will be watching a/some movie/s.
Hope you and Gary have a good one.
xo
That's awesome Danielle, I'd love to take out the feeling some people have of the day where they think they 'should' do certain things just for the sake of it. That's just pointless really. Do what you like! :D Hope you have fun anyway and give my love to Baker too! <3 Maybe extra extra cuddles for him on the day haha

I definitely do understand the whole reason some people don't like Valentines day. But I totally agree that you should just embrace it. If you don't have a boyfriend, share the love with your friends. It's just a day where you remind someone you love them in bigger ways than on a daily basis.

Exactly! It'd be lovely if more people incorporated this into everyday life rather than just one day... but every little helps! :D Thanks for stopping by gorgeous! xx
DeleteLovely post! I hate the commercialism of Valentines Day, but it's still nice to dedicate time to my boyfriend. I think we are just going to have a nice night in with good food and some films.

Aww sounds good Bethan! I know me too, I wish it wasn't like that. But I'd love to just remind people it can be a good reminder to just send a little love out there to family and friends too! xx
DeleteTotally agree with you! Make the most of the day whether it be loving your other half, loving your best friend, loving your family or just loving yourself! Cute ideas too :)

Thank you Charli! <3 Yeah I think it'd just be nice to spread a little love and joy to everyone! x
DeleteI love the jar idea and the spontaneous picnic!! :) It's great that Valentine's Day lands on a Saturday this year so most people are free :) I much prefer having a meal cooked from scratch for me/ cooking one together than eating out - it's way too pricey on V day!

p.s. See you in March!!!! :)
I'm the same! I love a nice meal out, but being in for Valentines seems so much more personal and cute ^__^
DeleteAww thanks Emma! I'm so excited to meet you in March hehe, we're all gona have a blast! xx
Love your list. Valentines day is a day of love so why not go the extra mile to self love.

Definitely! Just treat the day as a reminder to spread the love to everyone! - including yourself :) It'd be so much nicer if it weren't marketed as so inclusive to couples :) x
DeleteI love your list! I'm so over the expensive/flashy Valentines thing, I much prefer just sitting down and watching a film or something with my boyfriend. I might also treat myself this year - I'm supposed to be all about that self love this year, so I think something from the Lush Valentines range will be purchased!
